Yoga, pilates, and cardio fitness are other healthy options, even corporate gyms with personal trainers available during Office hours. These also cause a significant decrease in absenteeism. The research results of the Top Employers Institute make it blatantly obvious: Top Employers companies that have a gym inside and offer guided activities (personal trainer or courses) see a greatly reduced absenteeism rate: from an average of 4.3% to 2.9%.
The Top Employers Institute research examines all the diverse elements that contribute to make a company a Top Employer, or an excellent example of HR policies and strategies. Among the factors considered are those relating to work environment, an area that includes fitness facilities, corporate gyms, trainings and consultations, a dedicated budget, etc., which are competitive factors that are being increasingly implemented by companies.
Data: 53% of companies in the Top Employers Italia 2013 have internal gyms within their company structure, as well as a dedicated budget.
An additional, more specific inquiry examined and monitored related health initiatives, such as external structures to the company (gyms, pools, and training opportunities) or ad hoc initiatives reserved for some.
The results of the survey (internal corporate structure gyms and external agreements) report a high adherence of 45 companies to the Top Employers Italia initiatives in the field of fitness. (the programmatic initiatives after work were not taken into account).
“An unsurprising fact: Top Employers companies are distinguished by the care and attention they show their people and to their high standards of corporate welfare, which even include health elements, such as gyms open during business hours, or fitness classes. Solutions that imply a "bond of trust" with the employees, supported by the belief that offering a high level of welfare will result in a response of satisfaction, efficiency, engagement, and ultimately, business competitiveness”.
Greater competitiveness is confirmed by the data regarding the company gym-absenteeism relationship. Companies that have equipped gyms, provide training, and allow use of the gym during working hours showed a sharp decline in the rate of absenteeism, which was reduced fom an average of 4.3% to 2.9%.
Sports, fitness, and an active lifestyle are also seen as valid means of encouraging networking within the organization.
38% of Top Employers Italia 2013 companies offer its employees sports facilities, which facilitate aggregation and enterprise networking. This growing trend experience a 2% increase compared to the previous year (2012).
However, what’s even more interesting is the level of networking, also taking into consideration sport events and Business competitions. 80% of Top Employers Italia 2013 companies provide, organize, and encourage these elements in their corporate structure.
