Company core values are very important to organisations, often integrated in business or HR strategies, but how do you utulise these core values? We research, validate, and audit a large number of Top Employers around the world; in doing so, we come across many great examples of core value utilisation within these successful organisations. These key values have been integrated into the heart of corporate strategy for many of these organisations. For example:
- Chiesi - Spain
The Chiesi pharmaceutical company celebrates the annual anniversary of when their employees arrived. In the onboarding plan, the company has a part dedicated to the presentation of the values and their associated behaviours. So employees do not forget these critical values later, the organisation makes its values a visible part of their offices and communications. It is even a part of the performance appraisal for all employee
- LG Electronics in Spain
LG Electronics is also dedicated to transmitting its core values in the integration process. All workers, when they join the company, receive a document with the vision, mission, and values of the company in Spain, as well as the corporate ethical code, which also includes information on the globally established corporate culture. The company also organises a value contest, in which LG employees vote for their peers that best reflect each of the 5 values of LG Spain. The LG CEO chairs the awards ceremony at the final meeting of the year.
Other companies also use awards, such as Lloyd's Register, with its "Power of Award You", which rewards employees that represent the values of the company by going beyond their duty and actually doing "something that matters.
- EY in Spain
EY, on the other hand, utilises the "Chairman's Values Award”, which recognises those employees who best represent the values of the firm. Other employees vote for the nominees and winners through the company Intranet, and must explain the reasons for their nomination and vote!
- Novartis in Spain
Novartis is also a wonderful example of a value-oriented Top Employer. In assessing performance, the objectives are based up on corporate values. It also focuses on skills development training with a special emphasis on its values. Compliance is even part of the variable compensation for all employees; in fact, it has the same weight as other key objectives linked to business development.
