The first Top Employer Global Certifications are awarded!
Since 1991, we certify excellence in the conditions that international companies create for their people. The introduction of a Top Employers Global Certification programme is a logical next step in view of the global trend in harmonisation of employee conditions. The first five Global Certifications have been awarded to Valeo, Technip, Dimension Data, JT International and DHL Express.
The first companies certified as a Top Employer Global 2015 have been officially announced during the Global Certification Dinner in the Hermitage Amsterdam Museum yesterday evening. They have all been certified in various regions throughout the world and have harmonised their businesses in a way which has not only benefited their employees but also their operations.
Employer branding
The new Global Top Employers are proud of their certification. Simon Harris, HR Director at Valeo: “We set ourselves a challenge to be one of the first Global Top Employers and we made it! It gives a the HR teams and our employees around the world a great sense of pride. Getting better known in the marketplace as a B2B company is a great plus for our employer branding. The Global Certification made us aware of the differences country by country. It helps us to improve in areas where we are less strong.” Marilyn Rose Chaplin, Group Executive Human Resources at Dimension Data: “I am proud of the leadership in the organisation and the HR community that joined their efforts to become recognised as a Top Employer. From the perspective of global clients the certification proves the company they are outsourcing to has a high standard and passion for acquiring and retaining talent.” Mark Philips, Human Resources Vice President Central Europe at JTI: “What I value most about the Global Certification programme is the process that regardless nationality and culture, focuses more on the similarities, than on the differences.” DHL Express was one of the companies first established in every country. John Pearson, CEO Europe DHL Express: “We are proud being one of the world’s most international companies. It is only logical we have been elected as a Global Top Employer!”
Harmonisation of employee conditions
The Global Certification process recognizes those companies who offer optimal conditions for their employeesThe Top Employers Institute annually conducts a survey of HR best practices around the world. “Our global HR survey results have revealed that international companies are increasingly centralising their operations,” says Top Employers Institute’s CEO David Plink, “Aligning HR strategies on an international level, harmonising employee conditions and setting global standards in leadership are all necessary steps for a well aligned centralization process.”
HR best practices survey
Key areas of the HR survey include Leadership Development, Performance Management, Career & Succession Management, Compensation & Benefits, Workforce Planning, Talent Strategy, On-Boarding, Learning & Development and Culture. Hans Rothweiler, Member of the Board – responsible for Certification, Research and Innovation, outlines some of the results: “On the topic of Compensation & Benefits, there appears to be some improvements on performance-related pay, but less so on share options. On a secondary level, high performers receive better recognition. Flexible working arrangements, however, differ in countries and regions. Competency training and staff development are both highly harmonised, but continuity and coaching can be improved on in some cases.”
